Mission
Israel Healing Initiative is a nonprofit dedicated to healing PTSD through neuroscience-based treatment that works at the speed of science. We accelerate recovery for survivors worldwide by delivering neurostimulation simultaneously with trauma-informed psychotherapy, increasing responsiveness to treatment and enabling faster and more effective outcomes.
Origin
After the attacks by Hamas on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, neuropsychologist and clinical psychologist Dr. Orli Peter created the Israel Healing Initiative to support survivors of disasters, terrorism and war. The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Dr. Peter brought more than 30 years of clinical and research experience to the effort. Her work is grounded in a simple scientific reality: psychological trauma leaves measurable changes in brain functioning and, if untreated, can ultimately reshape the brain’s architecture.
What We Do
Direct Integrated Treatment
We begin by assessing how PTSD has impacted the brain through qEEG neural imaging. These findings guide targeted neurostimulation and trauma-informed psychotherapy. This integrated approach enables survivors with severe PTSD to stabilize rapidly. It jump-starts the brain’s capacity to recover by restoring sleep, improving focus and supporting emotional regulation, which protects against suicidal crises and extreme psychological disturbance.
After intensive treatment, we provide survivors with simple neurostimulation devices for home use so they can maintain the gains of a more resilient nervous system as new stressors arise.
Scaling Through Training
To expand access, we train healthcare providers to use neurostimulation devices and equip them to bring treatment to wider communities. Because these devices are easy to use and affordable, they can be scaled across Israel to ease anxiety, improve sleep and reduce both treatment and pharmaceutical costs for those living under the immense stress of war.
Why This Matters
Recently, Dr. Peter delivered a presentation in the British Parliament with British Army Ret. Major Andrew Fox, explaining the impact of these methods and encouraging the United Kingdom to consider them for soldiers and veterans. She also described the urgency of trauma work in a New York Times column, “If Only My Father Could Choose to Deny the Holocaust Ever Happened,” which explored the Holocaust memories flooding her father’s mind as he battles Alzheimer’s. It is a powerful reminder of how trauma shapes the brain across a lifetime.
Our Team
Today, the Israel Healing Initiative includes neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, mental health professionals and researchers from around the world. Together, they are committed to accelerating effective treatment for trauma survivors.
Neuroscience and Recovery
In a new award-winning documentary, Resilient, Dr. Orli Peter uses neurostimulation guided by neuroimaging to show how trauma impacts the brain and how neurostimulation accelerates recovery.

Testimonials
We have treated survivors of the Nova Music Festival in Israel and in the United States, and we are honored to share their testimonials of the relief we have brought them.

People like you give me back my trust that I lost in humans that day. So thank you very much.”

Daniel Sharabi
Of all the trauma treatments I did after October 7, this was the best. I want everyone in Israel to get this treatment as fast as possible.”
